Research on tracking and data collection

Location Tracking and Maps

-          Android and apple both use location services that use GPS, Cell-ID (your phone bouncing signals off cellular towers to triangulate your position) and Wi-Fi to locate your phone.
-          So, when you download an app you can opt into letting that app use your location data to customise what you see on that app.
-          This is a tried and true system and has been used for years by people like google and apple.
-          I went into popular taxi app Free Now to see what maps system they were using and on my android phone they were using Google maps and on my sisters iPhone they were using Apple maps. I believe that we should follow suit because this seems to be the industry standard for other apps as well like Just Eat and Uber Eats.
-          I investigated these apps because they show the exact maps system they use when you open them up.

Collecting Data

-          I looked into how we would collect data and provide it to our audience#
-          After looking through a couple of Open source sites like Googles Open source sight and Earth Outreach site.
-          I find out that they use an open source data collecting community called Open Data Kit.
-          They are as open source as it comes and they help provide information to companies like the World Health Organisation, The red Cross news page and the CDC.
-          They are the leaders

-          For Ireland the main providers of the current Pandemic seem to be coming from the Department of Health from gov.ie

-          I have not found out how they get their information but if this app will work on a local level we will have to know this information.
